3 A contract was created in anticipation of the marriage of Josef and Františka which conveyed certain rights to each party. This contract was subsequently filed in the K.k. Land Register Office in Bystrice nad Pernstejnem as part of a deed which officially confirmed the property rights stemming from the marriage contract.

The contract was written as follows:

"Marriage contracts have been concluded between Josef Koukal, an underage son of Josef Koukal, represented by a legally appointed curator, Jan Juran, as the bridegroom, party one; and then Františka, an adult daughter of the deceased Josef Slama, both of the from Rovné, as the bride, party two; as follows:

"Firstly: This newly married couple promises each other conjugal love and faithfulness, but as for timely provision;

"Secondly: The bride brings to her bridegroom her inherited allotment of the farmstead #4 in Rovné, available upon request from her brother, Josef Slama, viz. 240 guldens of silver, say two hundred and forth guldens in silver, two cows, one barren head of cattle, 2 sheep, 6 merices of rye and 6 merices of oats as a marriage portion;

"Thirdly: On the other hand, the bridegroom brings the farmstead located at #7 Rovné, having been conveyed by this father which has been recorded in the land registers, value 880 guldens of silver, to his intended wife into joint ownership;

"Fourthly: For the farmstead mentioned above will be owned by both the future spouses, all the saved movables to come are to be common and jointly owned;

"Fifthly: If one of the other party dies, either in a short or long time, without children descended from this marriage, then the party which will remain alive is to be the heir to the whole inheritance except for the mandatory quarter of the net inheritance, to be paid to the deceased's heirs;

"Sixtyly: These contracts will receive their legal effect only when they are officially confirmed;

"Seventhly: The cottager's farmstead #7 in Rovné is to be conveyed by means of land registers to the bride, Františka Slamova, as joint ownership of hers and her intended husband.

4 A contract was created upon the marriage of Josef and Františka which conveyed certain rights to each party. This contract was subsequently filed in the K.k. Land Register Office in Bystrice nad Pernstejnem as part of a deed which officially confirmed the property rights stemming from the marriage contract. This resulting deed also recorded the subsequent passage of ownership of farmstead #7 in Rovné.

The farmstead was originally owned by Josef's father, also named Josef (b. 1790). It appears title to the property passed to the son on 16 Nov 1849. It is likely that the father has died and his so inherited the property. Upon the son's marriage, joint ownership of the property passed to his wife, Františka, as conveyed in the marriage contract of 23 June 1851. This change in ownership was recorded on 25 June 1851.

On 19 April 1889, upon the death of Josef (b. 1830), his half of the property passed to his son, Antonin by inheritance. This deed was recorded on 25 April 1889. Antonin's mother, Františka, still retained her ownership in the other half.

In early 1893, Františka died and her share of the property passed to Antonin, giving him full ownership in farmstead #7. The inheritance deed was conveyed on 23 March 1893, and recorded on 26 Sep 1893. Value of the property was placed at 1250 guldens.

Then, on 17 Oct 1893, Antonin sold the property to one František Kalašek for the price of 1775 guldens, and the deed was recorded on 20 Oct 1893.

5 A descendant who is researching the Haines-Fearnley line had the opportunity to transcribe the original marriage license for Walter and Lilly. Lilly met Walter when he was in London with the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) during World War I. Following is the transcription:

6 A newspaper article of unknown date and unknown paper indicates Bob and Edna Mae were married on Sunday, May 22, year and location not stated. The wedding took place in the home of her parents, presumably in Wichita or possibly Eureka, Kansas. Bob's first wife died in 1937, and May 22 fell on a Sunday the following year; this confirms that Bob and Edna Mae were married in 1938. Family: F138

7 A transcript of a marriage bond from Loudoun Co., Virginia was dated 2 Feb 1841, for "a marriage shortly intended to be held and solemnized between James Smith & Margaret Truax spinster of Shelburne Parish." James Smith and John Means were co-bondsmen. The bond was dated 25 Jan 1783 and another pension document shows the actual marriage date as the 28th. Printed volumes of Loudoun Co. marriages & bonds do not include this record and it is presumed lost.

Although some have said the marriage was in 1773, the copy of the marriage bond is clearly written as 1783, and the court affidavit includes the statement, "She was not married to him prior to his Leaving the Service..."

13 According to their daughter, Betty, Olive and Gerhard had planned a wedding with many guests to be held probably in early August 1929 when Olive's dad, Will, was diagnosed with cancer and given about six weeks to live. The wedding was postponed and Will did pass away 9 September, 1929, just six weeks later. Olive and Gerhard then skipped the larger wedding due to "mourning time" and were married 16 October 1929 in a smaller ceremony.

Aunt Betty, who was a single, career gal owning her own beauty shop, came from California to attend (she and daddy were the closest in age and always communicated through the years). She stopped one night in Arizona and probably another night on the way with Daddy picking her up in St. Louis.

15 Alma REESE (shown in 1920 census as daughter of Commodore REESE and his wife Mary) had married Carl SHIELDS sometime between the 1920 census and 1922. Then they were divorced with final decree issued on 14 Sep 1922. Alma was awarded the care and custody of six week old Norma Janice, child of Alma & Carl. Alma was the plaintiff and Carl was the defendant in the divorce and her father, Commodore, was involved as her next friend in obtaining the divorce because she was not of legal age. If the 1920 census is correct, at the time of the divorce she would have been only 14 years old and Carl 18.
